Ohio Department of Development Update

December 31, 2021

The holiday season is here and at Development there is plenty to celebrate. We’re launching several new programs, for businesses, individuals and communities that will support our residents and help us continue to build strong communities throughout the state.

For businesses, the Ohio Meat Processing Grant provides grants of up to $250,000 to Ohio livestock and poultry producers so they can implement processing efficiencies, expand or construct facilities at existing sites, assist in training and certification, and improve harvest services. More information about the grant program is available at Development.Ohio.Gov/MeatProcessing. Applications are now open and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

For our communities, we’re launching two new programs to help fund brownfield cleanup and demolition projects.

The Brownfield Remediation Program provides grants for the remediation of brownfield sites throughout Ohio. Nearly $350 million in funds are available. A $1 million set-aside per county will be available until June 30, 2022. Remaining funds will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Program information can be found at Development.Ohio.Gov/Brownfield.

The Demolition and Site Revitalization Program provides grants for the demolition of commercial and residential buildings and the revitalization of surrounding properties. Nearly $150 million in funds are available. A $500,000 set-aside per county will be available until June 30, 2022. Remaining funds will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. More information is available at Development.Ohio.Gov/Demolition.

As the cold weather sets in, it is more important than ever to keep Ohioans safe and warm in their homes. At Development, we administer the Home Energy Assistance Winter Crisis Program that does just that.

The Winter Crisis program helps income-eligible Ohioans that are threatened with disconnection, have been disconnected or have less than a 25 percent supply of bulk fuel in their tank maintain their utility service. The program is available until March 31. Ohioans can apply for assistance by visiting energyhelp.ohio.gov or by contacting their local Energy Assistance Provider.

The Home Relief Grant is available to those impacted by those COVID-19 pandemic and can assist with mortgage, rent and utility payments. To apply, individuals can contact their local Community Action Agency. A list of these agencies can be found online at InvestingInOhiosFuture.Ohio.Gov under Home Relief Grant.

I hope you are all able to enjoy your holiday celebrations with family and friends. If you are looking for ways to celebrate the season, TourismOhio has plenty of ideas at ohio.org.
