Fall 2023 Quarterly Meeting

October 01, 2023

As Fall arrives, we’re enjoying the changing of colors in the surrounding landscapes in Ohio.  It’s that time of year when we enjoy football and getting together with friends.  We hope your fall is off to a good start and that you’re ready to meet with all of us at the next OCCD Fall meeting scheduled for Thursday, October 19, 2023 at the Embassy Suites Corporate Exchange.  A networking reception is open to all the evening prior on October 18th at the hotel beginning at 5:30 PM.

The Fall Quarterly Meeting is a hybrid event allowing those who wish to participate in person to do so and provides an option to attend virtually.  The day will be packed with 6 sessions of information, and there will be time to converse with your fellow colleagues during lunch.

The first session will be a presentation facilitated by Anthony F. Forte, Field Office Director at HUD who will provide information relative to the Section 3 Program and IDIS Reporting Accomplishments with Nathan Roush, Section 3 Compliance Specialist and Daniel J. Huyck, Senior Management and Program Analyst.

The next session entitled JobsOhio Inclusion Grant – Global Medical Foam will highlight the use of the inclusion grant in expanding a small business in Ohio.  The presentation will be provided by Thomas Barrett, Director of Economic Development at the Richland Area Chamber and Victoria Langer, President & CEO of Global Medical Foam.

The last session of the morning – Microenterprise and Beyond. . .CDBG and Small Business Development – is focused on the business development of two small businesses: Chicken Heads Ghost Kitchen and DFL Nutrition.  Both speakers – Anthony T. Head, Chef at Chicken Heads, and LaSue Juniel, Founder of DFL Nutrition will share how CDBG funding for small business has helped them grow their respective businesses.

Lunch will follow, with our business meeting immediately afterward.

Tony Core, from Squire Patton Boggs, will present immediately after the business meeting, to give us his, always insightful, legislative update.

The following session will highlight small business funding opportunities from various sources.  Terri Fetherolf, Vinton County, will facilitate a panel discussion to include Shaundretta Boykins, Manager, Business Development & Entrepreneurship, ODOD, Suzanne Parks, Director of Asset Development, Ohio CDC Association and Ana Assis, Director of Lending and Sales, ECDI.

The last session of the day will include an update on the Lead Safe Ohio Program provided by Barbara Richards, Deputy Chief, ODOD and her team.  Lead Safe Ohio Program training has been underway since early September and includes these sessions: (1) Intro to Federal and State Procurement; (2) Contractor Prequalification and Unit Pricing Strategies; and (3) Timely Payment Processing.
