Update on Fair Housing Issues Impacting Individual’s with Disabilities Training

On May 30, 2013, from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm, the Ohio Civil Rights Commission will sponsor, along with the Ohio Development Services Agency’s Office of Community Development (OCD) as co-sponsor: Updates on Fair Housing Issues Impacting Individual’s with Disabilities.  The training will be conducted at the State Library of Ohio, 274 East First Avenue, in Columbus.  Directions to the State Library of Ohio are available on http://www.library.ohio.gov/marketing/directions.

The presenters will provide participants information on the following topics:  an overview of the fair housing law and housing discrimination complaint process and legal updates;  Ohio Landlord Tenant law; and fair housing concerns for people with disabilities including guidance on senior housing providers that include Independent Living , assisted care and nursing home facilities; guidance on reasonable accommodation and reasonable modification including the interactive process and recent guidance on Assistance Animals and Fair Housing Act Design and Construction Requirements.

The target audience for this session is private and public organizations and persons that are seeking to eliminate discriminatory housing practices for individuals with disabilities including fair housing and civil rights advocacy groups, state and local government staff, and organizations working with aging/senior populations and individuals with disabilities.
