From Our Training Coordinator

Where does the time go?!?!

It has been a busy first 6 months of 2018.  Beyond the yearly Winter and Spring Quarterlies, OCCD has sponsored/co-sponsored CDBG Basics, HOME, Davis Bacon,  ODSA’s Intake for Rehab Specialists and four OCEAN Trainings.  Over the three offerings of CDBG Basics, 159 individuals were in attendance.  177 attended the OCEAN Trainings.  Care to take a guess how many fellow CDBG professionals were in attendance over the five trainings including the 2 CDBG held in the fall?  Answer to follow.  Keep reading!

Make sure you join us in July in Sandusky, Ohio for the 2018 OCCD Summer Annual!!  Many of you enjoyed the presentation at the 2017 ODSA Housing Conference this past November by Dianne Taylor, Executive Director of the Council of State Community Development Agencies (COSCDA), a national organization that promotes the common interest and goals of states, with major emphasis on community development, housing, homelessness, local economic development, and state?local relations.  While Dianne will not be returning, we are pleased to share that Linda Thompson who is currently the Senior Director of Advocacy and Federal Programs for the Council of State Community Development Agencies (COSCDA) will be the luncheon speaker on Wednesday, July 25.  She covers all policy aspects of state and federal community development, housing and homeless programs and advocates for the federal programs in Congress. Ms. Thompson worked at HUD for 10 years in the State and Entitlement CDBG programs, providing training and writing regulations on several CDBG issues.  Before joining HUD, Linda evaluated federal housing programs at GAO and on Capitol Hill.   Linda has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Johns Hopkins University and a Master’s degree in Urban Planning from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.  During her luncheon presentation, Linda will provide updates on the federal budget, legislative developments and relevant U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development initiatives. Wondering what the rest of 2018 and 2019 may bring? Join us for a lively discussion of the community development policy landscape and what to expect in the year to come.

Our next scheduled training will be held the day prior to the OCCD Fall Quarterly on October 23 at the Crowne Plaza North and will be provided by ODSA staff.  A reminder that there will not be an ODSA Conference in November this year.  Watch the OCCD website (www.occd.org) for registration information approximately 6 weeks prior.
