Quality housing and vibrant neighborhoods help make Shaker a special place to call home. With a majority residential tax base, maintaining strong property values and vibrant neighborhoods are necessities. Apply to fill our Neighborhood and Housing Specialist position to contribute to the ongoing maintenance and improvement of residential housing stock and to support neighborhood-based, bottom-up community organizing in Shaker neighborhoods. The Neighborhood and Housing Specialist will work directly with residents, community partners, third party consultants, and a cross-departmental team of talented and dedicated colleagues to support both neighborhood engagement and home repair programming.

Building on five years of growth and development in neighborhood-based community engagement and network building, the Neighborhood and Housing Specialist will work with residents and community partners to address and uplift neighborhood quality of life, including but not limited to providing City support of community network building in the Moreland neighborhood. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of basic home repair and maintenance projects and housing maintenance programs, including grant administration; strong skill in interpersonal communication and discussion/project facilitation; the ability to build trust and consensus and develop partnerships with and among both residents and community partners to address complex problems; the ability to effectively manage several projects/issues at once; skill in public speaking, delivering presentations and having personal conversations with individuals and groups of diverse backgrounds and experiences; and skill in the use of personal computers.

A Bachelor’s degree with coursework in community development, social work, political science, public administration, urban planning or related fields and considerable experience in project management, housing programs and services, or equivalent combination of education and experience are required. Three or more years of experience or background in community engagement, neighborhood engagement, community outreach, community organizing, direct service and dialogue with community members, community relations, or similar training or experience is preferred.
